 Now, let′s think of ″One Day at a Time″ Think back through the two episodes (6 & 7) of One Day at a Time we watched in this module. There are several examples of marginalization affecting several different characters. In a discussion post of no more than 200 words respond to the following prompts: Briefly describe the situation: What exactly is the problem or situation in which one or more characters are marginalized? How are they marginalized? Identify the players and stakeholders: Who has privilege in this situation (even if they don′t appear in the episode)? Who’s marginalized? What are the effects of those positions? In what ways does intersectionality deepen our view of this situation — that is, is the marginalization just because of one identity like sex or is it a combination of identities like sex, race, and class? (Think back to our readings on intersectionality. Remember the Goodyear case?) Choose one of the players or stake-holders and describe that character′s positionality in this situation. Remember ″positionality″ doesn′t mean ″opinion.″ Positionality means how that character is ″positioned″ with regard to the issue — powerless, able to affect change? Which of the character′s identities (gender, sex, race, class, age, etc) is or is not relevant? How is this problem currently being addressed/solved in the show? Is the way it′s addressed/solved realistic? For example, if an economic problem is solved by winning the lottery, that′s not very realistic.
