·  Why is defining the proper scope for a project so important? What are the dangers a project can face if the scope is not tied down?

·  Discuss the approaches used by at least two methodologies to cover the scope, feasibility, and requirements generation portion of the SDLC. What are some strengths and weaknesses of each approach?

·  What are some effects of using a database or other hardware or software resources for a project? How can a project best prepare to use outside resources effectively?

Week Three Discussion Questions

·  Discuss three common constraints on the design specifications for health care systems. Why is each important and what effect does it have on the design?

·  What are two security elements needed in the design of health care systems? How can an organization be sure to include appropriate security elements in the systems it develops?

·  Name a specific design flaw that could arise in a medical system. Why does the flaw appear and what could be done to prevent it?

·  Discuss how two different SDLC methodologies might approach the development and implementation phases. How do the methodologies differ? How are they similar?

·  Why does system development remain so challenging? What tools are available to make this easier? Why are these tools not used more widely?

·  What are some of the factors that affect how a system is put into active use? What problems can arise when implementing a new system? What can be done to minimize the likelihood and effect of those problems?

Week Five Discussion Questions

·  Name three key factors to consider when planning for system maintenance. Do most health care systems actively plan for and implement these factors? Why or why not?

·  Why is the cost of maintaining a system often not considered when planning for a new system? What is the best way to ensure that proper maintenance costs are factored into system cost planning?

·  Mandatory: Discuss two future trends in system development. How do you think they will affect the future development of systems in the health care industry?
