Case C: You are a new nurse manager for a medical surgical unit in a large medical center. Having just graduated with an MS in nursing, you are thrilled to begin your leadership career. You see infinite possibilities for career advancement at this institution. At the weekly manager meetings, you have noticed that the director, Stacey, seems to pick on one of the other managers, Marie. While Marie seems to be quiet and withdrawn at these meetings, you have seen her interact with her staff and it appears that she has their respect and support. At today’s meeting, Stacey rips into Marie because of a medication error on her unit, saying that everyone on that unit is incompetent, and that is Marie’s fault.
