10/20/22, 1:11 PM Module 2: Paper
This paper focuses on gathering, interpreting, and evaluating evidence on the subject prejudice and discrimination.
Describe your reactions, perceptions and significant insights gained from the reading and activities, being specific to
demonstrate your engagement of the readings. So that means incorporate insights from all the material. Please use
topical headings or numbers to make it easy for readers to see that you’ve covered all five items.
I. What key things did you learn about prejudice and discrimination?
II. Are you aware of times in your life where you (or someone you know/love) have maybe benefited from some angle
of privilege? Or, are you aware of a time where you personally experienced some unfavorable bias against you?
III. Reflect on the short story you viewed from the New York Times. (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/projects/yourstories/conversations-on-race?nytapp=true) Do you identify with any of these stories?
IV. Report and reflect upon your results from the Race Implicit Association Test.
Part II. Organization Application
V. How does discrimination or prejudice show itself (subtly or not) in an organization, group, or team with which you are
or have been affiliated? Describe enough of a situation concretely to provide context and use concepts from the
readings, citing appropriately in your response. If you don’t think there is any bias happening in an organization you
are (or ever have been) in, then think about your friends and family’s experience as a source of potential connection.
Logistics
Please see the rubric that indicates the specifics of the grading structure for this paper.

OGL350 Paper Rubric (1)
Anytime you reference someone else’s work, idea, research that is not your own it is always important to cite in text and
give that person credit, otherwise it is plagiarism (https://provost.asu.edu/academic-integrity/resources/students#avoidingplagiarism) . For an in-text citation APA
(https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/in_text_citations_the_basics.html)
includes the (author, date of publication). If it is a direct quote, then the (author, date of publication, and page number)
are required.
For example: As stated by Harro (2010), the cycle of socialization begins before we are born. OR: These studies
suggest that social mobility is not as fluid as we would like to believe (Fahy, 2009). Classism is defined as “prejudices
based on false assumptions” (Fahy, 2009, p. 158). OR: Class is often ignored as a contributing factor to life chances
(Scully & Blake-Beard, 2009).
Citing Sources—this link (https://tutoring.asu.edu/academic-resources) is helpful if you have any questions on how to
properly cite a source.
Direct Quotes
Please present the information in your own words and or paraphrasing with proper citations that demonstrates your own
analysis of the reading materials in answering the questions. Please use direct quotes sparingly. The overuse of direct
quotes limits your contribution of original thought and analysis in the writing assignment. Direct quotes are primarily
used with a specific term or phrase coined by an author, a critique of an author’s exact phrase, or a phrase that is so
moving and powerful that changing the wording would alter its affect and delivery (adapted from Purdue Writing Lab
(https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/using_research/quoting_paraphrasing_and_summarizing/paraphrasing.html) ).
Secondary Source
Please cite primary and secondary sources appropriately. From the Purdue Writing Lab
(https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/in_text_citations_author_authors.html)
: “Generally, writers should endeavor to read primary sources (original sources) and cite those rather than secondary
sources (works that report on original sources). Sometimes, however, this is impossible. If you use a source that was
cited in another source, name the original source in your signal phrase. List the secondary source in your reference list
and include the secondary source in the parentheses. If you know the year of the original source, include it in the
