Post 1:
The importance of positive messaging is catching someones attention, the more positive you are towards someone, they will bring a positive message or reaction back to you. When your at a company and you stay positive everyone will bring a positive attention and reaction to the company. I can convey positive messagess about myself by not using negative words or phrases when I communicate, giving good emotions and it gives me a good impression. In your final Portfolio talk about yourself and the portfolio truthful and positive to make it understanding for the reader. I can improve my postitive messaging by listing common negative words and if I find one of these in a draft, subsitute it with a positive word. When you get rid of those negative words it has a added benefit of making your writing easier to understand. Reading benefits improve the behavior for the people you work with and write to. And make people look at your positively.
2). What is the purpose of the artifact? My purpose of the artifact is to show how a childerns hospital can help kids when they are sick and try to cure them with the research and treatment they have. Who is my intended audience? My intended audience is out to the parents and families to the kids that need this cure for the diseases they have. What is the most pertinent information conveyed? The pertinent information is that they increased the childern’s survival rate from the diseases from 20% to more than 85%. How does the information benefit the perceived audience? It benefits the audience because they are reaching out to the families on the commerical and its promoting their company and telling their clients what they can do to help their childern. And it gives the audience a understanding on what the company is. What might someone object to? I think someone might object that they don’t have this hospital everywhere in different states. What is the context for this communication? The context for this communication is public and it can have a impact on everyones family.
Post 2: We, as a species, respond to positive words, actions, and thoughts. Experiencing these things can change our mood, self-esteem, actions, and how we treat others. Presenting a positive message can give the reader a sense of optimism rather than limitations. It can set the tone for a positive direction and reception of a message. Locker & Kaczmarek (2014) states that those in the business setting “Responded more positively to positive rather than to negative language and were more likely to say they would act on a positively worded request” (p. 101). Looking back on figure 7.1 on pg. 102 of our textbooks on negative words, I see many words that I use quite often. In my professional communications, I would try to limit these words to help portray a more positive form of communication.
As I mentioned in the week one discussion, I tend to give more detail than may be necessary, including unnecessary negative information. Leading into the final portfolio, I believe I could apply number four of the five techniques deemphasizing negative information by removing the negative if it is not important to the message. This also applies to setting the proper tone. When you omit certain words or information, you re-structure the message and alter the tone to fit the recipient. This leads even further into good reader benefits, like adapting to the audience and giving clear and appropriate infromation (Locker & Kaczmarek, 2014).
For the second portion of this discussion, I chose the artifact dealing with Smokey the Bear. In analyzing the Purpose of the artifact, it purely stresses the importance of fire safety and preventing wildfires. The Audience of this artifact is human beings. This is portrayed with the information on the site expressing that nine out of 10 wildfires are caused by humans and can occur from young age groups to adults (About Wildfires, n.d.). The most pertinent Information of the site is all the fire safety and tips that are more than helpful to avoid wildfire situations. The audience’s benefits are a clear message and easy-to-follow information that preserve their lives and the environment. One possible Objection that I could see is that the site shows plain steps with cartoon pictures describing how to make a fire. To any parent, this could be seen as a negative showing young children how to start something they cannot fully control. The Context of the site is a form of mass communication. It sends a message aimed at the ones who are the cause and the solution to the problem, human beings and not just for adults but young children and teens.
