This assignment allows you to demonstrate mastery in outcome # 5: Analyze and evaluate one’s own work practices for individual improvement and development.

Final Assignment – Knowledge Gained and Further Development Activity

In this final paper, you will draw upon knowledge gained in both this capstone class, but also other classes you have taken in your degree program. You will select two of the following concepts that represent topics related to the key knowledge areas in HR or if you have another topic related to Human Resources you are interested in not on the list, ask your professor for approval to select it.

1. HR Competencies for the 21st Century
2.  The Strategic Role of Human Resources
3.  HR Metrics that Matter
4.  The HR So That Statement
5.  Differentiation of Rewards and Segmentation of Current or Potential Employees
6.  Employment or Employer Brand
7.  Employee Engagement
8.  Employee Retention
9.  Use of information Technology in the HR Function (could include a Human Resource Information System (HRIS) or other systems)
10.  Organizational Structures Impact on Effectiveness

For the selected concepts, you will describe each and demonstrate knowledge by expanding on ideas with scholarly support.

Use the following outline for the paper: 

1.  Title page (name, title of paper, date centered on the page, no graphics)

2.  Introduction and purpose of paper

3.  First of the two concepts/topic selected (share the name of the topic)

        A.  Academic definition of the topic with in-text citations for the source of the definition

        B.  Value that is added to the organization through the concept

        C.  Examples of the concept in practice in an organization

        D.  Risks of not utilizing the concept

        E.  Your personal evaluation of your own competencies (your own knowledge, skill, or abilities) in the concept

        F.  How you will continue to develop your competencies (your own knowledge, skill, or abilities) in the area and how you will

             apply the concept in your own organization. You may want to use a S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable,

             Relevant, Time Bound, Evaluated and Re-adjusted).

4.  Second of the two concepts/topic selected (share the name of the topic)

5.      Concluding comments about your knowledge gained to date in your courses about the important role of the Human Resource

         function in organizations and how it is transforming toward an even more strategic role in organizations.

6.      Reference page listing sources in alphabetical order

Mechanics: Provide at least two scholarly sources for each of the two topics selected with corresponding in-text citations and full references. Scholarly sources are typically not websites but may include material shared in our course material or the course material from other courses. Include a title page and a reference page for the paper. Use topic headings to identify the segments of the paper, double spaced, 12 point font. Little or no graphics are expected.
