CHAPTER 13 ASSIGNMENT

Answer the following questions in 1-2 paragraphs each (unless otherwise stated). Answers should be written in your own words and consist of well-developed paragraphs. Be sure to cite any references that you use.  Utilize your textbook as well as reliable Internet resources.

 

  1. Read and answer the “Stop and Consider” question on page 319 of your textbook. In Table 13.1 (page 320 of your textbook), hormones are organized alphabetically. How else could you organize this table? What type of organization is most useful to you as a learner?

 

  1. Select three (3) hormones from Table 13.1 (page 320 in your textbook) and write a short report (not more than two paragraphs), elaborating on their function in the body. The function given in the table is a good starting point. Be sure to expand on your answer by using reputable Internet resources.

 

  1. Write a short paragraph explaining the concept of cell-to-cell communication as it relates to hormonal messages. Page 324 (Figure 13.6) and the Internet are good resources.

 

  1. Prepare a Power Point presentation on the following clinical models (clinical models start on page 329 of your textbook): 1) Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion, 2) Hyperthyroidism, 3) Hypothyroidism, and 4) Addison Disease. Each slide should contain the name of the clinical model and two to three bullet points on the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment for each.
