Component 1:
This component is focused on the detailed design and planning of a data collection exercise including:
Defining the problem statement (what will this primary data collection task help to provide insights on?)
Selection of a suitable location where data will be collected (include justification for the site selected).
Detailed preliminary plan for the data collection task including consideration of the resources needed, survey time period(s), survey method (compatible in addressing the problem statement), response rate and survey trade-offs
For your specific survey method design a suitable questionnaire or traffic data collection template
Discuss the importance of sample size and estimate what will be needed for your survey
As part of gathering primary data, each student will be required to complete an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) assessment evaluating the safety risks and concerns of their planned data collection exercise. A template will be provided via the LMS. The OHS assessment will contribute four percent to the final marks of Assessment Two. A completed risk assessment should be attached in the Appendix of the report, with a short summary of the safety implications addressed in the body of the report.
Component 2:
Following the collection of primary data, practitioners need to analyse the data to obtain key insights. Student will, therefore, be required to analyse VISTA data for the City of Maribyrnong and interpret key insights into the residents’ travel patterns. Key tasks include:
Defining a separate problem statement, to narrow down the required data analysis (the VISTA data set is large and has multiple variables. Students are not required to analyse the entire data set, rather define a critical problem statement to narrow the focus of the analysis)
Analyse the data to address the problem statement
Interpreting the key insights
Both component 1 & 2 will need to be presented in a concise report.
