The introduction and conclusion section must be typed up as a word document using double spacing. Do not use personal pronouns.

Introduction:

For the Introduction, write a statement of purpose for the experiment, in your own words.  Define Aufbau principle, and electron configuration.

Conclusion: address the following questions. Answer each question using a separate paragraph.

Give a summary of your lab results for the color emitted and observed by each of the salts (a salt is a water soluble ionic compound) and the corresponding wavelength. (Use the information in Tables 1, 2, and 3 to answer this question)

For Li, Na, K, and Ca atoms, compare the wavelength of each atom with the frequency, which colors have a higher frequency and which colors have a lower frequency? Which would have the highest energy/lowest energy? (Refer to Table 3 as well as my lecture notes to answer this question)

Would the color of the flame change if different anions were paired with the metals investigated, i.e. lithium nitrate vs. lithium chloride?  Explain briefly why it would or would not.

Estimate the wavelength of the light barium salts emit. Would this wavelength be similar to any of the colors tested in this experiment?  (Hint:  read “How Firework works” article in week 6 content as well as use Table I to answer this question)

After you typed in the answers to the above, keep the introduction and conclusion headings but delete all the questions on this page to make the report look neater.
