My Experiences
My encounters this week included meeting with my nurse mentor to track the progress I am making on the individual success plan I organized at the beginning of this course. Together, we reviewed what I have completed thus far and took a closer look at the upcoming course assignments, objectives, and competencies. This week I chose to focus on scholarly activity opportunities that would be in line with my evidence-based project proposal. My mentor was helpful in sharing several committee opportunities. Particularly the education committee. She connected me to the head of the education committee, which presented the chance to meet with this leader and discuss my EBP proposal and interest in partaking in one of their meetings to learn more about their group and processes.
This week I focused my research on understanding the health care system at the local level when planning an EBP implementation. Some highlights from this include noting the level of support for the EBP change proposal from the health care system. Also, identifying if the clinical staff have the required resources and knowledge. My EBP proposal focuses on on the following
Among adult patients (P) scheduled for lower total joint surgery in the postoperative setting, will the enhanced surgical recovery protocol (ESR) (I) improve their surgical outcomes (O) compared with patients who have not performed in the ESR protocol (C) in a month’s (T) period?
I also took a closer look at change theories, Lewin’s change theory, and social cognitive theory. For implementing my EBP project, I Lewin’s change theory would make the most sense to use because the theory is realistic by considering the dynamic external forces that are evident in the implementation of evidence-based projects in nursing.
