Nationalism is the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one’s own nation as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations. Nationalism is a feeling that people have of being loyal to and proud of their country, often with the belief that it is better and more important than other countries. It is a desire by a large group of people to form a separate and independent nation of their own, and it is primary political loyalty to “our nation” and “our state” because we are familiar with it.

Borders between countries are becoming less important as the interconnectivity among people all over the world increases. Travel, the Internet, economic trade, and immigration all blur the lines between countries and decrease the cultural and social differences among people. Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) are examples of institutions that work across borders and also contribute to this trend of transnationalism. Stemming from nationalism, which was the traditional view, transnationalism is the current view on world politics.
