their rate of change (stable/dynamic) and complexity (low/high).
You are required to conduct a PESTEL analysis for an organisation you are familiar with and give
solutions to the following questions:
a. Which of the external forces you have identified has most implications for the business?
b. To what extent has the organisation’s policy taken account of these forces?
c. How should managers decide which of the many factors identified in a PESTEL analysis they
should attend to? If they must be selective, what is the value of the PESTEL method?
Referring to your chosen organisation, you are to elaborate with examples.
2. Using Porter’s five forces framework to analyse a competitive environment, state and explain the
forces operating in this environment, and their entry barriers. Gather evidence and examples of each
of the five forces and discuss how it has affected competition.
Identify one company in the industry that has changed its strategy to take account of the change in
one or more of the five forces.
Part C – Corporate Responsibility & National Culture (40%)
1. Structures for encouraging corporate responsibility include leading by example, codes of
ethics, ethics committees, ethical audits, and ethical reporting. Corporate governance
frameworks depend on systems for providing adequate information, and this implies clarifying
the roles of directors in relation to executives, annual reporting, and annual meetings of
shareholders.

organisation uses to promote and monitor corporate responsibility.
b. Identify two recent examples of corporate malpractice (including one from the public
sector) and two of philanthropic behaviour. What were their effects?
2. Explain accurately Hofstede’s distinguished five dimensions of national culture. Give
examples in each case.
