Charlie apologies at his interview that his voice and hearing are affected by the effects of a viral infection, but Alice dismisses this due to the incidence of illnesses during the winter months, and hires Charlie.
After a week of work, Charlie realises that he is struggling to take orders from customers and customers are often shouting at him, so he informs Alice that he actually has congenital hearing loss and would prefer to work in the warehouse where it is quieter and he does not need to interact with customers. Alice is irritated that Charlie had not told her about his congenital hearing loss when she hired him. She refuses his request and immediately dismisses Charlie as she says that it will damage the store’s reputation to have dishonest employees.
