  • *Respond to BOTH of THE PROMPTS BELOW .
  • You may type directly into the text box; however, I STRONGLY recommend that you use Word to create your work and save it and then copy and paste it into the text box.
  • As well, please do not include a heading or header.
  • You do not need to indent, but DO make sure that there is a space between your two paragraphs.
  • Initial postings will include (2) separate paragraphs; each paragraph must be 250 words minimum not per instructions below. Shorter or underdeveloped postings or responses will not be given any credit.
  • Begin your Postings by embedding the prompt’s exact key words into your topic sentences (the first sentence of your paragraphs, so immediately everyone knows who or what you’ll be discussing.
  • Please always include the reading title and author in each topic sentence. Be sure to use the correct font for the title.
  • Please never begin a paragraph with supporting evidence.
  • You do not need direct quotations for a summary; in fact, a summary does NOT include any direct quotations.
  • You may and should include a minimum of two direct quotations for Prompt #2 which is not a summary.
  • You do not need a Work Cited page…yet.
  • Because this assignment is different than others, you do not need a question at the end of your prompt paragraphs, but you absolutely do for each response.
  • HUGE! Proofread and edit your writing by reading aloud. 2 points will be deducted for each clarity error. 5 points minimum will be deducted for skipping any one assignment


 Required Prompts – Please do not access any sources in relation to these readings or the author; looking at other sources is considered a form of cheating. Be sure to include enough of your own details to prove that you did indeed read. Assume that your readers have not read the novel. Please stay within the assigned chapters.

  1. Imagine that you just finished the novel and you are telling a friend about the entire book, but you only get one ½ double spaced paragraph to do so!
  • Before you begin, print and read “How to Write a Summary” and keep this document next to you as you complete this assignment.
  • Beginning your topic sentence with the novel title and the author, write a complete paragraph plot summary on the entire Spare Parts
  • READ TWICE: This summary must be created by in entirety and you may not access any sources. Plagiarized work will have you excused from this course.
  • Remember that a plot summary includes a beginning, a middle, and an end, and does not include extraneous details.
  • You’ll include names of most important characters, and major action only.
  • Therefore, your entire summary should cover the entire novel.
  • When you are finished, your summary should be approximately ¼ page long single spaced and around 250 words minimum and NO LONGER than ½ page double spaced.
  • Make sure that you include appropriate transitions that show change of time. E.g. At the beginning of…later on…after the…etc.


  1. Think carefully about each main character who helped build the robot in Spare Parts. Write a 250+ word paragraph about the character you believe had the most personal challenges in the novel and discuss each reason one at a time, all the way through. You may include direct quotations with MLA page numbers to support your answer. Make sure you have a transitional sentence between each new example.

Assignment #3: RESPOND – Responding to two or more different Students who have not received any response yet

  1. Begin your response by noting the person’s name you’re responding to: Hi Maya…
  2. As a Reply, please provide a thoughtful in-depth comment to two students’ Postings who have not yet received any responses. My guess is that each of your responses will be a minimum of eight sentences.
  3. You may correct each others’ work, but you must also respond to students’ content!
  4. No “atta boys,” or “I really like” statements, etc.
  5. Credit will be awarded by you bringing up NEW insights. It’s okay to connect your experiences to others.
  6. You don’t have to limit your responses to two!In fact, I’d love to see three or four!  See what other students are writing about and compare their work to your own! Please please keep the conversation going. J
