In the first two weeks at the start of the academic year, it is important to identify each learners learning preference. Within my place of employment at Lewisham college there are bank resources available for teachers to use. In the maths department, we have a standardised practice of using ICT to identify the preference of learners. Before the learners are tasked to complete a diagnostic on skills builder to identify gaps in their learning, they are asked to complete an online survey. The learner is informed that the questions asked in this survey are based on their personal way of learning and that there is no ‘right’ or wrong’ answers. Furthermore, to promote inclusion they are told that they are allowed to discuss the questions with one another to identify the similarity and other way of learning within the group. When the data is collated, I am then able to plan my lesson tailored to each learners’ preference. In my lesson plan, I would detail the different teaching methods and assessments used to target the different learning preferences within the group.
