Compare and contrast the following two buildings by architect Frank Lloyd Wright: Fallingwater (located in Pennsylvania) and the Allen House located here in Wichita. What are the stylistic similarities and differences in the two buildings? Be specific. Go beyond identification and thoroughly describe the stylistic qualities of the buildings. Conduct research beyond just the course work readings to develop more informed discussion posts. Have you ever visited the Allen House? If so, what was it like?
Identify the elements of form and principles of design utilized in the chosen work of art. What types of lines, shapes, colors, textures, patterns did the artist use? Is there a background? Describe them. Then, try to identify the steps the artist took to create the artwork. What did she/he do first? Next? Analyze the artwork and imagine, in detail, how the artist would create it. Try to get inside the mind of the artist.
— Develop sketches for an artwork that you create. Three (3) different thumbnail sketches must be completed. You choose your own subject matter and imagery, but the work must be done in the same manner and style as your chosen work of art from Part 1. The idea is to create a work of art that synthesizes the approach of your chosen artist. In the thumbnail sketches, work out 3 different ideas for your final artwork. You may complete them using any medium — pencil on blank, unlined paper is fine. You will need to scan them in or take good, high-quality, crisp photos of them. Photos should be legible and should be free of cast shadows
over your sketches. Add your images to the Microsoft Word .docx file you submitted for Part 1, thereby submitting both Parts 1 and 2 in one document. Submit that .docx file containing Part 1 of the project as well as the images of your thumbnail sketches via Blackboard by the due date.
— Using the ideas worked out in the thumbnail sketches, create your own fully-developed, original, complete work of art. Your artwork should be the same media as your chosen work of art from Step 2 (painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, etc.) Remember, your artwork must meet the following criteria:
-It must be a complete, fully developed work of art created using the same medium/media as your chosen artwork from Part 1.
-It must utilize the principles of design that your artist utilized in the chosen artwork. -It must be done in a style similar to that of your chosen artwork. However, it should
not be a copy of the chosen artwork.
-It must contain your own imagery and subject matter. For example, if the chosen artwork is Mary Cassatt’s Mother and Child XI from the Wichita Art Museum, the style is impressionism and the subject matter is a mother and child. The work of art that you create could be of a parent and child that you choose in a pose that you choose and should be impressionistic.
-It must be titled.
-You must spend a considerable amount of time creating the artwork. The amount of time and effort you put into it will show in the final artwork.
— Take a photo of your artwork, or if you have access to a scanner, scan it in. Indicate the title and dimensions of your artwork. Compile the image of your final artwork and the work information into the Microsoft Word .docx file you submitted for the Thumbnail Sketches. Submit that .docx file via Blackboard by the due date.
